Abstract art paintings are not for everyone. Either you hate it or love it. If you’re a person who’d scrutinize details and an underlying deep meaning, abstract art is not for you.

This art form has been around for more than a century. Some might debate that it came from the cave paintings that are thousands of years old.

Long story short, abstract art is distinctive from art that is perceived to be normal or standard. In other words, this art form uses visual language such as various shapes, colors, forms, lines to build a whole composition that displays independence without being limited to one concept.

For those who are interested in gaining some know-how on the subject, here are some interesting facts about abstract art paintings.

What is abstract painting exactly?

Abstract art has been around since the 19th century and it’s been evolving since then.

As mentioned above, abstract paintings can be overwhelming for some people who perceive them as mere shapes or colors. In fact, there’s some truth to it. The reason is, abstract paintings don’t convey any recognizable subject.

To simplify the abstract art definition, take the Mona Lisa painting by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. The painting clearly depicts a gorgeous woman and her expressions along with a detailed background. Sure, you can interpret the story behind it however you wish, but there is a clear subject. It is simply a woman.

One of the major characteristics of abstract art is the artists’ usage of shapes and certain colors to come up with a composition that may or may not convey their emotions. In some cases, abstract artists would merely put some paint over a canvas. Their goal was to capture their emotions and inner subconscious thoughts through this randomness.

Abstract expressionism, on the other hand, is a term that is used for new forms of abstract art paintings that were created by American painters in the 1940s and 1950s. Some of them are Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Willem de Kooning. These types of abstract art paintings often convey spontaneity.

Mostly, abstract expressionism and abstract expressionists were based in New York City. Abstract expressionism was the perfect term for these artists who attempted to make art with an emotional and an unconscious mind.

Some of his other renowned abstract art paintings include Broadway Boogie Woogie and Victory Boogie Woogie.

Joan Miro’s abstract art painting, Peinture (Etoile Bleue) in 1927 is another noteworthy mention.

Ben Nicholson OM, on the other hand, experimented with abstract geometric sculptural reliefs. 1934 (Relief) is one of his famous works.

Another notable figure of abstract art paintings is Jackson Pollock who was an American painter. For the 44 years of his life, he managed to create 363 impeccable paintings. He had mostly used drip techniques in his paintings that rose to fame due to their uniqueness. One of his most famous abstract art paintings is Convergence from 1952. Conclusion

It is evident that abstract art paintings don’t fall into the category of paintings we see all day. The beauty of it is, no one can provide a fixed meaning behind a certain abstract art piece. The interpretation solely lies in the hands of the viewer unless the artist provides definitions beforehand.

Although there is a certain abstract art definition, it can be considered as the most powerful art form of all which contributes to an artist’s inner thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

Abstract art is independent and agrees with no boundaries, which is exactly the art should be.
